About Souths Cares
Souths Cares was established in 2006 as a not-for-profit, independent charity. We are closely affiliated with the South Sydney Rabbitohs Football Club and carry on the Rabbitohs' long and proud tradition of helping our community.
Our charter is to support disadvantaged and marginalised youth and their families through the delivery of capacity building programs addressing education, training, health and employment. We are endorsed by the Australian Tax Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient Charity.

What Is A Breakfast Bootcamp?
Souths Cares delivers a School-to-Work mentoring program in partnership with five high schools in the South Sydney region. As part of our School-to-Work program, we run a 'Breakfast Bootcamp' at one of our partner high schools.
A Breakfast Bootcamp involves an early morning training session hosted by a qualified personal trainer which is followed by a healthy breakfast at school. Our mentors ensure students attend school on time and we also provide practical, Teacher's Aid support for their first class of the day.
The program goals are to:
- Promote healthy lifestyles through physical exercise and healthy nutritition.
- Increase student's school attendance.
- Improve student's focus and commitment to classroom learning.
- Develop relationships between students, teachers, community members and Souths Cares mentors, who all train together.
Help Us Grow!
Currently we run our Breakfast Bootcamp with equipment we borrow from Matraville Sports High School and a local youth group. We would love to have our own 'Mobile Gym' so we can start running our program at other high schools.
There is a strong demand for our Breakfast Bootcamps at the other four high schools which are participating in our School-to-Work mentoring program.
Optus Future Makers
Souths Cares is a finalist in the 2017 Optus Future Makers Program. Optus Future Makers has contributed $9,820 to help us build a client management system- this will enable us to better deliver our mentoring programs. More information about Optus Future Makers can be found here- https://www.optus.com.au/about/sustainability/community-grants
How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds will be used to create our own mobile gym! This will enable us to improve our program delivery and expand our Breakfast Bootcamps to other high schools in the South Sydney area.
The funds will be used to purchase gym equipment including kettle bells, battle ropes, slam balls, a weights sled, weight plates, barbells, fitness mats, skipping ropes, boxing gloves, boxing pads, an outdoor speaker (to play music during training sessions) and storage cases for the equipment.
The Challenges
We are currently running our Breakfast Bootcamps with borrowed equipment at one high school. With your support we'll be able to create our own mobile gym and take our program to other local high schools who would benefit from having the program held at their school aswell!
